WEXFORD WANDERERS...15 LONGFORD...8

What a super night it was in Portlaoise for the Div.1 Leinster League Final. Of course the result made all the difference. This game will long be remembered by the players, coaches and large number of travelling fans who witnessed a pulsating cup final. It had everything, intense passion, nerves, huge hits, fast flowing back moves, ferocious rucking and mauling, crunching tackles, suberb catching, total commitment, bodies being put on the line for the cause, opertunistic tries, precise kicking, loads of added time and then the sweet sound of the final whistle, the silver was coming back to Wexford.
Straight from the kick-off Wexford took the game to Longford, some hard yards were gained by carrying the ball, asking questions of the Longford defense. They tackled and tackled again because they had to. Stephen Dwyer, Johnny Craiciun, Michael Maguire drove at them. The back row were constantly on their shoulders to drive over and recycle, Carthaigh Geoghegan, Dan French and Mark Takacs were winning the breakdown and when the moment was right Dylan Joyce-Ahearne unleashed the backline. Stephen Scallan back from a long lay off with injury was on fire, he ran complicated lines and opened up the defense. Craig Wright was outstanding at full-back returning kicks again by running at the heart of the Longford defense.
Following a run down the touchline by Darragh Kehoe, the Wexord forwards got a sniff of the try line and after a couple of attempts Mark Takacs reached over for a deserving try. Jack O'Connor was on target with the difficult conversion and Wanderers now had points on the board.
Confidence was up and from the restart Johnny gathered and headed back for the try line. With a stampede behind him he was grounded short of the line. With the ball recycled, scrum half Dylan Joyce-Ahearne wriggled his way over to extend the Wexford lead much to the delight of the Wexford followers. 12-0 and looking good.
Aproaching half-time Longford made one of their few visits to the Wexford half and after moving the ball through the hands were fortunate to get the touchdown in the corner. 12-5 at the interval.
The second half was a real see saw affair with both teams giving it their all. At one stage Wexford were pinned to their line and but for a timely interception by Jack O'Connor, the score line would have been altered. Another Lomgford move was abruptly stopped when Ciaran Kavanagh nearly broke a body in two, with one of his bone shuddering hits. Wanderers were inspired and were soon back at the other end of the pitch. A penalty awarded for off side was struck with precision by Jack O'Connor and once again Wexford had the upper hand.
Fresh legs were added with Dylan Lawlor, Mariuz Kraska, Patryk Zaborsynski and James Roche being added to the fray. Wexford were tactically on the ball and some clever kicking kept them at the right end of the field. The added time seemed to go on forever but the sweet sound of the final whistle was greeting by a massive overflow of emotion as players, coaches and supporters shared the victory in the middle of the field.
This win is just another reminder that Wexford rugby is on an upward curve and all who play and are involved in Wexford Wanderers RFC can be extremely proud of that.
On recieving the trophy, captain Stephen Dwyer thanked the coaches, Fintan, Bobby, Colm, Mark and John for the huge effort in preparing this teams since last September. Hard work has its rewards.
Team: Ciaran Kavanagh, Carl Walsh, Michael Maguire, Johnny Craiciun, Dan French, Stephen Dwyer, Carthaigh Geoghegan, Mark Takacs, Dylan Joyce-Ahearne, Jack O'Connor, Colm O'Corcora, Jordan Ryan, Darragh Keogh, Craig Wright.

U.17's ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINAL
Leinster Plate Q-Final
Wexford Wanderers...39 Clondalkin...0
The U.17's advanced to the Leinster Plate Semi-Final following a convincing victory over Clondalkin at Park Lane. Wanderers got of to a great start when Dylan Joyce-Ahearne took off around the blind side of the scrum to score after only 5 mins of play. Wexford were back on the scoreboard again shortly after when scrum half Dylan crossed for his second try. Further tries were added by Jordan Ryan and Colm O'Corcora before half-time, with Jack O'Connor adding a conversion.
The second half was more of the same for Wexford as the dominated up front, while the backs were in form adding a further three tries, Jordan Ryan, Craig Wright and Dylan Joyce-Ahearne completed his hat trick. Jack O'Connor who dictated play from out-half added a conversion to leave Wanderers with a total of 39 points.

Dylan Joyce-Ahearne scores in the corner.

U.17's ADVANCE IN LEINSTER PLATE

The U.17's who are waiting to play their Leinster Final took on Rathdrum in Rd.1 of the Leinster Plate . It was a changed Wexford line-up but none the less they came out of the blocks in startling fashion and before half time had a 14-0 lead with tries from Jordan Ryan and Dylan Joyce-Ahearne. Both were converted by Jack O'Connor. A further try early in the second-half by Ciaran Kavanagh again converted by Jack O'Connor stretched the lead to 21-0. However, Wexford then proceeded to take their foot off the accelerator, and a lax defence led to Rathdrum bridging the gap to 21- 12. In the closing minutes, Rathdrum again broke the Wexford line and ran in for a try in the corner, which went unconverted, leaving Wexford to scrape a 21-17 win.

Team: Craig Wright, Jordan Ryan, Daragh Keogh, Colm O'Corcora, Michael McQuilan, Jack O'Connor, Dylan Joyce-Ahearne, Mark Takacs, Stephen Dwyer, Zack Corish, Dan French, Johnny Craicun, Ciaran Kavanagh, Dylan Lawlor, James Roche.
Subs: Carl Walsh, Liam Hartigan, Robbie Edwards, Michael Maguire.

UNDER 17's GO DOWN TO WATERPARK
Wexford ...10 Waterpark ...12
The Under 17's travelled to Waterpark on Sat. morning for a friendly which was a very useful excercise as it gave an opportunity to many fringe players to get some game time. It was a close affair with Wexford defending for the majority of the first half. However it was a Jordan Ryan try that opened the scoring for Wexford. Waterpark bounced back with a try of their own which when converted gave them a 7-5 half time lead. A further try by Waterpark extended their lead to 12-5. A dylan Joyce-Ahearne try for Wanderers narrowed that gap to 12-10 but that is the way it remained at the final whistle.
Team: Ciaran Kavanagh, Dylan Lawlor, Michael Maguire, Dan French, Johnny Craiciun, Zak Corrish, Carthaigh Geoghegan, Stephen Dwyer(Capt.), Dylan Joyce-Ahearne, Jack O'Connor, Liam Hartigan, Colm O'Corcora, Darragh Kehoe, Jordan Ryan, Craig Wright. Subs: Niall Scallan, James Roche, Robbie Edwards, Dean Kehoe.

Carlow 28 Wexford 0
The Under 17's gave too much respect to Carlow, who were in the Premier Leinster Final last week, and found themselves 14-0 down after 10 mins. For the remainder of the first half Wexford were well in contention and dominated the possession and territory but were unable to breach a strong Carlow defense.James Roche,Dan French, Glen Murphy and Johnny Craiciun all carried the ball well.
Wexford attacked for a large period of the second half but still could not make the break through.Carlow managed two late scores to rap this up 28-0.It gave Wexford a taste of Premier Division opposition and with a few better decisions and a greater belief then this scoreline would have been a lot different.

Under 17 Leinster Div.1 League Q-Final
Wexford Wanderers...45 Navan...5

A fantastic result and the manner in which it was achieved was so pleasing. They had to absorb pressure for the first 15 minutes but never buckled.Following a driving maul up field and the resulting scrum Dylan Joyce-Ahearne snagged his opposing scrumhalf and forced his way over the line.
Following this the team lifted their intensity and Ciaran Kavanagh crashed over to increase the lead before half time. Jack O'Connor added the conversion to make it 12-0.
The second half was all Wexford and they turned the screw immediately with another try from Ciaran Kavanagh.Further tries were added by Cartaigh Geoghegan 2,Craig Wright and Marco Pons.Jack O'Connor converted four of these to leave Wanderers with a huge tally of 45 points.Navan got a consolation score at the end but the victory was all Wexfords.
It was wonderful to watch and the large crowd marveled at the clinical execution. Fintan,Bobby,Colm and Mark deserved huge praise for the manner in which this team was prepared and we wish them luck in the quest for the League title.
Thank you to Brendan Barry for the photos of Dylan,Ciaran and Cartaigh on the way to scoring their tries.

U.15's ADVANCE TO CUP SEMIS
Leinster McAuley Cup Q-Final

Wexford Wanderers...31 Wicklow...17
What a great few days it has been for Wanderers. Wicklow were expected to put up a strong challenge to Wexford in this cup game, but straight from the kick off Wexford ploughed into them and drove them back deep into their 22. For the next few minutes they pounded their defence but were left reeling when Wicklow salvaged the ball and broke out of defense to score under the posts. 7-0 Wicklow. Wexford didn't bow and were back in the Wicklow half soon after and scored tries from Collie Joyce-Ahearne and Sean Stafford. Wicklow added a converted try before the break to lead 12 -10.
Some astute tactical kicking gave Wexford good field advantage and they capitalised with further tries from Eoin Roche,Shane McGuinnes and Collie added a second to his tally. All these were converted by Eoin Roche. Wicklow managed a late try but Wexford were in firm control and now meet Athy in the Cup semi-final next Saturday.
Team: James Byrne, Tadgh O'Brien, Steve Roche, Tom Brennan, Collie Joyce-Ahearne (Capt.) , Nick Jones, John Gannon, Shane McGuinness, Conor Foley, Eoin Roche, Donnacha Carroll, Sean Stafford, Josh Healy, Liam Barry, Tom Hudson.
Subs: Ruairi Devereux, David Purcell, Darragh Comiskey, Luan Firman, John Greene,

Wanderers mixed it up a bit on Sat. last playing a combined team v Hereford. It gave everyone a chance to shine against a very well drilled Hereford side, who are in their own regional finals this week, back in England.
The visitors were quick out of the blocks and had 3 tries and a conversion scored in the first half. Wanderers made a few changes and some strong ball carriers like Nick Jones, Steve Roche and Collie Joyce-Ahearne were added. David Kavanagh was having an excellent game at No.7 tackling everything that came his way. Wexford began to assert themselves anf much of the game was played in the Hereford 22. Finally Collie charged over for a try and shortly afterwards he added a second, when he picked and went down the blindside froma 5 meter scrum.
All who watched enjoyed the entertainment value of this game. It is always nice to play visiting teams. A different yardstick by which to measure the strength of our teams.

U.15's DEFEAT WICKLOW IN SEL
South East League
Wexford...12 Wicklow...5

The U.15's put in a tremendous display of controlled rugby against Wicklow on Sun. morning in their South East League game at Park Lane. The forwards were very effective in keeping possession through the use of ruck and maul, Steve,Nick and Collie the main ball carriers. Wexford were dominant in the scrums and line outs also. Eoin Roche at out-half controlled the territory superbly. Both Donnacha Carroll and Josh Healy continously battered away through the centre, however Wicklow were highly organised in defense, and it was not until the 22 min. that centre Josh made the break through, scoring under the posts. Eoin Roche added the extra two points, to give Wexford a 7-0 lead at the break.
Wanderers again took good field position and following a forward drive, Collie Joyce-Ahearne crashed over to increase the Wexford lead to 12 points. Wanderers made some changes and shortly after conceded a try. This was to be Wicklows last threat as Wanderers closed out the game, winning 12-5.
Collie Joyce-Ahearne(Capt.), Tadgh O'Brien, Steve Roche, Tom Brennan, Darragh Comiskey,James Byrne, Nick Jones, Shane McGuinness, Conor Foley,Eoin Roche, Josh Healy, Donnacha Carroll, Chris Culleton, Liam Barry, Tom Hudson.

U.15's LOSE TO WATERPARK

The Under 15 squad travelled to Waterpark for a friendly on Sun morn last. It was a very useful exercise as it gave an opportunity to experiment with the side and give all players on the panel a run out. The final score of 10-7 demonstrates that their is a good deal of strenght in this squad and no ones place is secure as they prepare for their Cup clash with rivals Wicklow.

U.15's THUMP RATHDRUM

The U.15's advanced in their Leinster McAuley Cup with a resounding victory over Rathdrum at Park Lane on Saturday morning. Straight from the kick off Wanderers were on the attack and John Gannon finished off a flowing move in the corner. This was quickly followed with further tries by Ruairi Devereux 2 and Collie Joyce-Ahearne, with Eoin Roche adding two conversions. Wexford led 24-0 at the break.
With Rathdrum spirits in shatters Wanderers turned the screw, and seven tries by Eoin Roche, Nick Jones, Steve Roche 2, David Purcell, Eoin Blake and Josh Healy, certainly finished off this non contest. Eoin Roche kicked five of those conversions to leave Wexford with their biggest tally of the season, 69-0.
Team: Collie Joyce-Ahearne(Capt.), Tomas Barry, Steve Roche, Tom Brennan, Darragh Comiskey,John Gannon,Nick Jones, Shane McGuinness, Conor Foley,Eoin Roche, Josh Healy, Donnacha Carroll, Ruairi Devereux, Liam Barry, Tom Hudson.

FABULOUS FIFTEENS
Leinster U.15 Cup First Rd.
Gorey...26 Wexford Wanderers ...31
When the draw was made for this Cup and Wexford saw that Gorey was the opposition there was a colective exhale, 'not Gorey again'. Having played each other 4 times already this season in various competitions, Gorey had the advantage of knowing that they had won 3 of those encounters. However the Cup is different. Wanderers trained hard for this and were certainly up for the challenge. Gorey opened in determined style and were over the Wexford line early to lead 7-0. The Wexford lads responded in telling fashion and following a flowing move involving many off loads they were level when winger Ruairi Devereux crossed for a try which was converted by Tom Hudson, 7-7. Gorey replied again and stretched their lead to 14-7 but this was short lived as Ruairi Devereux once again set off on one of his runs to score again, 14-12. Again Gorey piled on the pressure and went into a comanding lead with two further tries before half time to lead 26-12.
While the scoreline looked ominous for Wexford, this team were far from down. Tries from Nick Jones, Steve Roche and the final piece of the hat-trick from Ruairi Devereux but Wanderers back in front. Two superb touch line conversions from Eoin Roche added to the tally and Wexford were now in front and not going to surrender. Gorey were left shell shocked and Wanderers progressed into Rd.2.
Team: Collie Joyce-Ahearne(Capt.), Tadgh O'Brien, Steve Roche, Tom Brennan, Darragh Comiskey,John Gannon,Nick Jones, Shane McGuinness, Conor Foley,Eoin Roche, Josh Healy, Donnacha Carroll, Ruairi Devereux, Liam Barry, Tom Hudson. Subs: Chris Culleton, Sean Stafford and Daniel Murphy.

UNDER15's BEAT ENNISCORTHY 22-19
Our U.15 side travelled to Enniscorthy on Sat. morning for a South East League game and returned victorious. They won 22-19 with tries scored by Collie Joyce-Ahearne who got two,Ruairi Devereux and Steve Roche. Tom Hudson kicked a conversion. This win moves Wexford into third place in the league behind Wicklow and Gorey. But Wexford still have a home game v Wicklow to come. It is very competitive in this section. Next week Wexford renew their relationship with Gorey, this time in the First Rd. of the Cup. We owe them a beating lads.

SUPER 15's
Under 15 Leinster League
Wexford Wanderers...8 Longford...7
What a titanic tussle this was.Longford arrived in Wexford with a swagger and fancied their big team to do the bussiness. They took for granted that size was what mattered. What they failed to see was the size of the hearts under the Wexford jerseys.Wanderers began very well and spent most of the first half in the Longford half. But it was not until close to half time that they managed to cross the line.It was an oppertunist try by scrum half Conor Foley who created a gap and went through to score a fine try.
The second half saw Wexford on the defensive and it was only after 5 minutes when Lonford breached the defence to score a converted try to put them 7-5 ahead. Wexford defended and defended again with some relentless tackling by Donnacha Carroll and Josh Healy in the centres.Steve,Collie,Shane and Nick also put their bodies on the line. Finally a run by Ruairi Devereux relieved the pressure and got Wexford upfield.Following an infringement at the scrum Wexford were awarded a penelty. From 30m Tom Hudson stayed calm and slotted the ball between the posts to give Wanderers the slenderest of leads. It was back to defend again but Wexford were determined to see the next round and great joy was expressed at the sound of the final whistle.
Well done to coaches Peter,Pat,Ray and Billy for having the team so well prepared.

U.14's TEST NAVAN
Under 14 Leinster Cup
Wexford...14 Navan...17

Wexford U14s took the long trip for a cup tie to Navan last Saturday morning . Navan, who were a very strong team and were unbeaten all year, got off to a great start scoring a try in the first five minutes which was then converted . They were in attack for the next ten minutes, but for some heroic defending from Wexford, Navan would have been further ahead .Wexford then came storming into the game with some great work from the forwards, taking the ball in for phase after phase .The ball was then moved out along the backs with David Tormey breaking through three defenders to score in the corner which was converted by Matthew Joyce . Navan scored a well worked try before the end of the first half which was not converted leaving the half time score at 12-7 to Navan.
Navan started very strong in the second half scoring an early try which was not converted .Now trailing by 17 - 7 Wexford stepped up to the mark with some great team work and were rewarded by a spectacular individual try from Josh Healy, who broke away from inside his own half to score under the posts. Matthew Joyce, steady as ever, again converted .From this point on the play was all Wexford with notable performances from Joe Coleman , Brionn Coffey and Connor Fenlon.Unfortunately the winning score was not to come for Wexford who lost by 17-14, to this much more experienced Navan team.
Team: Aaron Kehoe, Paddo Redmond, Ian Moran, Josh Healy, David Tormey, Matthew Joyce, Harry O'Connor, Gregory McGrath, James Jordan, Connor O'Keeffe, Brionn Coffey, Cillian Joyce, Daire McCormack, Conor Fenlon and Joe Coleman.

Wexford tried to run the ball out, but Enniscorthy intercepted and touched down under the posts .The conversion followed. Further pressure and and too many penalties conceeded resulted in Enniscorthy scoring again. Wanderers were shell shocked but slowly got into the game and Wexford surged forward but were driven back. Just before half-time Wexford lost Joe O'Connor and Andrew Maguire through injury. Wexford rallied in the 2nd half twarting 3 certain tries but they never got into a real scoring position themselves. Enniscorthy won 14-0. The boys were very disappointed but wished Enniscorthy good luck in the rest of the competition.

U.13's REACH LEINSTER Q-FINALS

The u13's travelled to play Carlow at the weekend .Wexford were on top from the start and it wasn't long before wing James Stafford broke through on the right for the first try.Further Wexford pressure ensued and the other winger Kevin Mahoney scored under the posts, from a lovely cross-field kick from outhalf Matt Doyle. An interception by full back Joe O'Connor rounded off the half .Score at half time 19- 0 to Wanderers.
Wexford were in full flow and Kevin Mahoney scored 2 more tries. A number of changes were made without any upset to the rhythm. Openside flanker Luke Lacey made a great break and ran the field to score his first try of the season .
The backs were running rampant andStephen Lyne was playing out of his skin. The forwards were definitely having an off day being pushed back time and again. With the game in the final moments Carlow scored a consolation try .Final score, Carlow 7 Wexford 38.

UNDER 13's BOW OUT AT SEMI-FINAL STAGE

The U.13's roller coaster came to an abrupt halt in Cill Dara on Sat last, being beaten by an all powerful Navan side. They had scored 3 tries without reply in the first 10 mins.
Wexford were missing Greg McGrath in the scrum and Joe O'Connor at full back.Wexford began to come to grips with the situation and forced Navan back and Jack Stafford and Neil Beaver we unlucky not to score. A number of changes were made at half time and the boys were determined to show their metal . Sure enough they got into the game. Wexford began to get good ball and throw it around and Daire MacCormack went in for a try under the posts. More pressure followed but Wexford were held up while over the line on 3 occasions. Another score just wouldn't come. Great fighting spirit from all the lads , and the final score of 42-7 doesn't do their huge effort justice. Hopefully by next Sat. they will be back in top form as they face Carlow in Rd. 2 of the Leinster Cup

Leinster Cup Under 13
Wexford Wanderers ...12 Cill Dara ...10

The quest for Leinster glory has begun. Everyone arrived early to begin preparations and to get suitably warmed up . With the team talk over and photos taken, all were ready for the whistle. Cill Dara were an unknown quantity, a new challenge. Wexford were quick into the battle and sustained early injuries to Matt Doyle and Cian O'Keeffe, the later needed to be replaced by Neil Beaver . Wexford pushed Cill Dara back to there 22 time and time again but were unable to go any further. There were too many knock ons and valuable teritory was lost. Wexford now started to move the ball wide but the final pass would go incomplete. James Tackacs was replaced by Aaron Ryan -due to injury. With half time looming Jack Stafford gave a deep pass to captain Joe O'Connor who side-steped the first tackler and ran around the Cill Dara defence to ground under the posts, Matt Doyle duly converted. Cill Dara moved up a gear and put Wexford on the back foot but resilient defending from forwards Ciaran Kirwan , Niall O'Donnigan, Conor Halligan and Greg McGrath in particular helped to keep them out. Half-time Wexford lead 7 0. The second half started at a breakneck pace, Cill Dara were throwing everything at the Wanderers and finally their outhalf-Cormac Delaney kicked ahead and ran on to it to score out wide. Crucially the convertion was missed.Wexford made a number of changes, Cormac Conway on for Ciaran Joyce at loose head, Andrew Maguire moving to scrum half and Luke Lacey to open side flanker. The scrum started to provide a better quality ball and Jack Stafford[our MVP] urged the team forward .Matt Doyle kicked a lovely cross field ball to Neil Beaver to run onto and touchdown .Wexford now led 12 - 5. Again the Kildare men surged down the field and after heavy pressure scored a try on the left to make it 12 - 10. Wexford held on for the final few minutes to score a memorable victory. The large crowd present showed their appreciation for both teams.Well done lads.

History was created on Sat 13th when Wexford Wanderers RFC fielded 2 teams at under 13's at the same time. The first thing to happen was the 'B's' were redubbed the Wexford Wolfhounds.
Their was great enthusium for this new departure, and everybody was there well before kick off, in order to prepare. The Wolfhounds were off the leash and had New Ross pinned down in their 22 early on, Johnny Hamilton scored the first ever try. This was quickly followed by another by Andrew Maguire, both were converted by Kevin Bierney.
New Ross now found their legs and piled on the pressure, this was rewarded by two unconverted tries. The score at half time, Wolfhounds 14 New Ross 10
Afew personnel changes were made and it was business as usual with Luke Roche scoring in the corner. This went unconverted.New Ross came again but try as they might they always came up short.Final score Wexford Wolfhounds 19 New Ross 10 Team manager Philip Stafford was delighted with the performance and looked forward to more outings for this promising young team.

UNDER 13's BEAT ENNISCORTHY IN S.E.L. 33-12
With the Seapoint debacle behind us it was back to the South East League against our old foes Enniscorthy, the management were wary as the last confrontation had been a narrow 5-7 victory back in December, and so it proved. Wexford were nervous and squandered a number of chances before a cross field kick from Matt Doyle sent Jack Stafford over in the corner.
Enniscorthy stepped up a gear and made a number of half breaks and they scored a great try just before half time .Score at the break, Wexford 5 Enniscorthy 5.
Bill Quaid came on for the injured Ciaran Joyce and this lead to a better scrum platform. Then Enniscorthy intercepted and after a number of phases took the lead with a converted try.
This was the spur Wexford needed. Martin Whelan, Matt Doyle, Kevin Mahoney, Joe O'Connor and Daire MacCormack were to the fore.Wave after wave of pressure got them up to the 22 and Joe O'Connor broke the gain line and scored under the posts.Almost immediately Jack Stafford kicked cross field for winger Kevin Mahoney to score under the posts ,both were converted.
Wexford were rampant now and Joe O'Connor and Daire MacCormack added further tries .Final score Wexford 33 Enniscorthy 12.This was a hard faught game and the scoreline does flatter to some extent.

Under 13's v Gorey Match Report
Conditions were perfect for rubgy and our captain elected to play down hill for the first half.Gorey were out of the trap very fast and putting Wexford on the back foot. Wexford intercepted a Gorey move and grounded under the posts. Outhalf Matt Doyle converted.Gorey responded immediately and scored in the corner from a lovely worked backs try.
More Gorey pressure but then our forwards bagan to take control.A good ball was produced for first centre Jack Stafford to kick cross field to put Kevin Mahoney over in the corner.
It was now a forwards battle;boths side driving, rucking and mauling. Then scrum-half Andrew Maguire made a half break, the pack followed out and scored a push-over try ,last to surface was Luke Lacey.Score at half time 5 --17 .
Wexford started where they left off Matt Doyle gave a glorious pass to Joe O'Connor who ran through the Gorey defence to touch down Luke Lacey converted .Then all went wrong wexford conceeded 3 trys . Ball handling and over elaboration to the fore.
Anyway the game was tied at 24 --24 and Gorey had an acute angle conversion which the kicker duely converted to win 26--24.

Atfer the break Maurice Walsh assertrd himself and sent Conor Glynn over. Stalward tackling by the forwards kept Goerey out. Aaron Ryan caught the eye. The game was poised at 10--10.Unfortunately Gorey got the all important final try and went on to win 10--17.

U.12's v GREYSTONES
Wexford 4 v Greystones 0
Greystones turned out a physically strong team, however they were no match for Wexford. From the start Wexford attacked the opposition agressively. They didn't let Greystones settle into the game and most of the first half saw Greystones under pressure in their own half. Wexford won the lineouts and with quick offloading and wonderful wing play managed to put in two tries before half time. This was a very hard physical game played by two teams who wanted to win this end of season game. The second half was fiercely contested by both teams with some great rugby being played by both teams. Wexford's back line held firm and the opposition were unable to breach it despite piling on the pressure. Wexford created the breaks that saw two more tries being scored to secure victory. Wexford dominated in what was a very entertaining game of rugby. They played very well together as a team just as they have done all season. Ian Bennett and Barry O'Connor scoring two tries each. Wexford were the stronger team overall. They showed the kind of spirit and determination that has made them so successful this season. Tributes must go to their coaches who have worked so hard to mould them into the kind of team that has done their club, parents and themselves proud. Thanks to Noel Kelly, Richard Restrick and George O'Connor who gave such committment to these youngsters all season and who can now enjoy a well earned break.

Wexford 1 v Greystones 3
In the second game of mixed 11s and 12s Greystones won this one by three tries to one. Adam Cantwell scoring for Wexford.

Under 12's SHARE POPPLEWELL CUP
A huge congratulations to all involved with the U.12 squad who went to Gorey last Sat. Last years U.12 team were the first Wexford Wanderers team to capture that trophy. This years group were determined to make their own piece of history and retain the cup.

U.12's v WICKLOW
Wexford travelled to Wicklow last Saturday and proved themselves yet again. Wicklow were not strong enough to counteract Wexford's aggressive attacking play. This was reflected in the overall score Wex 13 Wick 3. Newcomer Jack Moore scoring on his debut for Wexford. Josh Christie scoring a great interceptor try just on full time. Try scorers David Doyle, Ian Bennett, Josh Christie, Jack Moore, Tony Boggan, Alex Ryan, Peter Barry and Ben Powell.
U.12s can feel proud of themselves after another impressive display of rugby. Wexford's back line again strong in defense, only conceding three tries. Overall a solid performance but the real test coming this Saturday in the Popplewell Cup in Gorey.

David Doyle powering his way through their back line to score two tries. This followed by attacks down the wings by Conor Firman and Barry O'Connor scoring one try each to secure victory.
2nd Section
This was a much tighter game with Waterpark coming back at Wexford but wexford still in command and winning 3-1. David Doyle. Rory O'Connor and Peter Barry scoring impressively for Wexford.
3rd Section.
In this game Barry O'Connor sustained a shoulder injury and had to retire having made a valuable contribution to Wexford's attacking play.Waterpark were now regrouping and managed to secure a win in a very close and physical battle. Josh Christie scored a great try after racing past two defenders to touch down. Alex Ryan was also impressive with another great try from a scrum. 3-2 to Waterpark.
4th Section
Both teams now feeling the pace but Wexford winning by two tries scored by David Doyle and Conor Firman. Again Wexford's dominance very evident.4-3 to Wexford
5th Section
This last game ended in a draw 1-1. The ferocity and physicality of this encounter taking it's toll on the players. James Resterick retiring after being injured trying to break from the scrum. James had a great game.

Great defensive play and aggressive attacking proved that they are a side to be respected.Conor Firman man of the match.Rory and Barry O'Connor played sterling stuff.Great tackling.Good offloading. Very impressive team performance.

A special thank you to Eddie Doyle for these match reports.

Under 12's v Waterpark Sat.13th Mar
After a tough start Wexford ran out convincing winners in a hard fought battle against Waterpark. Waterpark were first to score within a minute with a superb try, scored by one of their running backs. Marker laid down to Wexford, who responded with a superb score by Ian Bennett. Wexford's physicality came to fore at this stage and they ran out easy winners 3-2 at the end of first ten minutes.
In the second quarter despite some fiercely contested play neither side managed to score. However in the final quarter Wexford's dominance finally broke through after a period of exciting and expansive play Barry O' Connor touched down in corner. Wexford were pinned on their own line soon after, but took resulting scrum against the head. Ball moved quickly out back line for another Wexford score by Barry O' Connor. Impressive for Wexford were Peter Barry, Josh Christie , David Doyle and Alex Ryan. Man of the match Ian Bennett.

Vixens 2010

Vixens

Sunday seen the first match of the Leinster League for Wexford Vixens. They played a very tuff side New Ross. The first half got underway seeing great defense from the vixens. This paid off with the first try coming from the Wexford girls putting in heavy tackles and rucking the width of the pitch when Carrie Doyle broke away and made a run the try line but got tackled just short of the line; Doyle popped the ball off to Jill Hamilton who scored to the right of the post.
The second try of the game wasn't far behind when Rose Flynn broke Ross defense line on the half way line and made a lot of ground. She then side stepped Ross first centre and passed of to Katie Fitzhenry who was missed tackled by their full back, Katie finished off with a try under the post which she then converted

Going into the second half the Vixens were feeling the pressure as the pitch conditions on the day were very wet and took a lot out of the girls. But they dug deep and it paid off when Maria Busher made a break from outside the 22 with Lynda Casey close on her heels. Maria took on a Ross defender and passed it out to Lynda who had turned and scored the third try for Wexford.

New Ross put up a great fight and managed to rob a lot of Wexford's balls in the ruck's. Wexford kept New Ross in their own half for majority of the match. They tried to make a lot of breaks down the wings but were quickly closed down by the Wexford Defense.

The third try of the match came from Wexford no eight Carrie Doyle she picked the ball off the back of a ruck and managed to break out of two tackle before going under the post for a score. This try was then converted by Katie Fitzhenry. At this stage Wexford made a substitution Fleur Moran who made a great impact to the team especially in the rucks and also in ball carrying.

Katie Fitzhenry once again made a break for the posts which started from great passing from across the pitch. She was taking across the line with a Wexford maul but was held up. From this Wexford had a five yard scrum, in which Doyle picked from the back of the scrum with a great last effort form the Vixens she was driven over the line for her second try of the game. Leaving the final score 29-0.
Person of the match deservedly went to Carrie Doyle.

No one could be faulted through out the match a great team effort was seen from all. Players that shone out to name a few was Annie Rowe who put in huge tackles. We lost count of how many balls were turned over by Terri O'Connor. Ciara McDonald did not stop until the last whistle getting involved in every ruck. Maria Busher was great at creating space on the wings. Our scrum half Barbara Hamilton had an outstanding performance, making great passes through out game. Shenda Moran made a lot of ground and also took a lot of heavy tackles. Jenny Ryan and Amy Farrell also took a lot of heavy tackles. A big thank you goes out to our coaches Noel Ferguson and Fintan Bolger and the ref on the day Pat Ryan.

A poor first half performance saw the Vixens loose to Clondalkin on Sunday. Clondalkin pushed through a less than impressive Wexford side with four try's and two conversions. With only ten minutes to go in the first half Wexford gained momentum and full back Linda Casey got down the right wing scoring Wexfords try close to the posts.
The Second half showed a much improved Vixens squad with everyone putting themselves on the line for the ball. What ever was said at half time obviously worked to great avail. The Wexford squad were impressive in line outs, winning 90% of the ball. Rucking had greatly improved from last weeks wining game against Ross. Wexford didn't lose any ball on the ground this was a great achievement in itself considering the extremely poor condition of the pitch on the day.
Great team work and support put pressure on the Clondalking side leaving second half scoreless. Leaving the final score 22 - 5.
Player of the match went to Katie Fitzhenery.
Thanks again to managers Noel Fergusion and Fintan Bolger.
New member always welcome, training Wednesday and Friday at half seven in Park Lane. For further information Contact Terri on 0862065214
